A glossy 20 page booklet on gastrointestinal endoscopy with information on what's involved with a gastroscopy and colonoscopy, sedation, and the types of procedures performed (e.g. biopsy, removal of polyps).
It includes the various steps to follow when preparing for endoscopy, from the initial assessment to the pre-colonoscopy low-residue diet, fasting, and information on taking bowel preps. What a patient needs to know if they are taking medications or are diabetic, have a pacemaker or are breastfeeding, and issues such as time away from work and how safe is endoscopy are all explained, along with information on what happens after endoscopy, the recovery, results, and precautions.

Consisting of 45 pages with coloured pictures and illustrations throughout, this comprehensive self-help guide aims to help women understand the function of the pelvic floor and how to cope with incontinence and constipation. It includes information on the how the bowel works and the important function of the muscles that make up the pelvic floor. It also explains the role of the core stability muscles which run across the inner part of the abdomen, down the back and into the pelvic area and the importance of having these groups of muscles in good form for a functioning pelvic floor. Exercises on how to restore core stability are outlined in detail.
In the section aptly titled 'the descent begins', it describes the signs and symptoms of a weakened pelvic floor, the problem of having a prolapse and conditions that raise the risk of having pelvic floor dysfunction. Comprehensive information is given on constipation and faecal incontinence and how these can be managed. Conditions that involve pain in the back passage, anal fissures, haemorrhoids, IBS and flatulence are also covered. Advice on how to improve bowel function includes a table of foods listing the fibre content and a useful addition is the guide to the various laxatives which gives advice on when they might be needed and how to make the right choice.
The book sets out exercises for strengthening the pelvic floor, on the correct technique for emptying the bowel and bladder and the importance of having the right posture while on the toilet. While the guide is directed at women, men with incontinence or bowel function problems may find a lot of the information to be beneficial as well.
