What is IBD? - Frequently Asked Questions

Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) are inflammatory disorders that are often lifelong and affect various parts of the gastrointestinal tract. Both disorders are grouped together under the name 'inflammatory bowel disease' (IBD).

Other rare microscopic forms of IBD include collagenous colitis and lymphocytic colitis. IBD should not be confused with the functional disorder of the bowel called IBS - irritable bowel syndrome.
